Making her debut at The Triple’S’ was Walesby’s very own Lynnette Marie.  It is nice to hear a young, female vocalist, as we get to hear lots of songs that can only be sung from a female point of view.  There were several tried and tested songs, but these were mixed with many more obscure numbers that you do not hear other artistes perform and this makes for a far more interesting show all round.  This was a really good performance by Lynnette and she later invited Jonny Williams on stage with her to do a couple of duets, which went down really well with the audience.

Jonny Williams was in good form at Bramley Social Club where he gave the audience 100% Country music done in his own unique style.  Jonny gives his all whilst on stage and we heard a good airing of songs from his new CD, which is a true reflection of this man and his music.  He is also a remarkable guitar player and this adds to the enjoyment at any of his shows.  We caught up with him a week later at Grassmoor WMC, where once again he gave a very impressive performance.  It was a pity there was not more bums on seats to hear this guy in action, as he disappoints no-one with his crystal clear vocals and excellent presentation and the few that were there really enjoyed his three sets.

CHARLIE LANDSBOROUGH -THE WINDING WHEEL -CHESTERFIELD

Stopping off at Chesterfield during his Autumn Tour was singer/songwriter, Charlie Landsborough and his five-piece band.  We had a lovely chat to Charlie before the show and he told me he was very pleased with the new CD, Nothing Lasts Forever, and with his Autobiography, Storyteller, which is selling very well.  He has been asked back to Australia again next year with a possibility of a few dates in the Far East, so he was well pleased about this.  He is a charming man and a real pleasure to talk to and he is also a good friend, so thanks again for the chat Charlie.

As the lights go down Pete, on accordion, starts the music flowing by playing intros to many of Charlie’s favourite songs and is followed by Jason on keyboards and Tony on keyboards; they are then joined by Gerry & Karl, before the Maestro himself strolls on stage and takes his seat on the stool.  He removes his trademark hat and lets his long locks flow as he embarks on a journey of enchantment.   I don’t think that anywhere else in the world there could be just one man and his guitar, surrounded by great musicians, keeping his audience absolutely enthralled for over two hours.  He is certainly a master craftsman with words and music and I would estimate that over 95% of the songs we heard were self-penned numbers. He included many favourites from an impressive list of his CDs, songs such as Five Fingers, Just Passing Through, Song Of The Ocean and Last Night I Dreamed I Was In Heaven.  In between the singing we heard how the lyrics of the songs came to be written, along with many little anecdotes about his life on the road and the people he has met along the way.  He really did hold the audience in the palm of his hand and they listened intently to his every word, spoken or sung.  He would not have been allowed to leave the stage without his trademark songs at the end of any show, My Forever Friend and Shine Your Light, which had the appreciative audience joining in singing and waving their fibre optic wands.  This was a special night we were privileged and proud to be part of, so many thanks to Charlie & the band.
